Life Book Page 2 - Inner & Outer Goddess Archetype

Life Book Page 2 - Inner & Outer Goddess Archetype

This is page two of my Life Book. Our assignment was two identify two goddesses who portray our qualities. (January is the month of the goddess.) I made my page a foldout page on 140 lb watercolor paper.

Gaia is on the outside of a foldout page because she is my "outer personality" and when opened, Fauna is on the inside as my "inner personality." Then light in the darkness on the back side of the front page where I will write my description. Fauna was sourced by the wonderful artwork of Katrina Sesum.

    1. Thank you, Kaere. I posted individual photos of the two goddesses on Pippa's urging. Now you can see Fauna more clearly.

  4. Okay Nancy, with the large risk of sounding really strange....I wish i were a tiny mouse in your pocket to watch how you create such a beautiful work of art. Such a feast for the eyes! I didn't know that my birthday month is the "Month of the Goddess" (: I can't wait to see what you create next. Thanks for being so kind to this "newbie". An answer to your "pininterest" question, I've had several invitations from friends....but just now joined. One problem..I don't actually understand it. I haven't taken the time to really check it out...but thinking I may need a tutorial from a friend. Once again, SO creative and inspiring and just plain lovely.

    1. Thank you, Barb. I did not create these images from my head but went from images I found on the Internet.

Three more days until your birthday! I'm glad you joined Pinterest. I'll warn you, it's very addictive. Ha! I would be more than happy to talk you through it via Skype. Once you know where to go in it, there is so much to see!

  6. Beautiful use of goddess energy for this piece. I was really stuck by how Gaia's eyes are closed for the outer personality and Fauna's are wide open and engaging for the inner personality.

    1. Jo, thank you for noticing that. I did not see that symbolism. I'm going to have to think about this for a while. Thanks!

    1. Oh there are LOTS of them out there, Sandra. I'm doing three year-long classes and two of them are free. Plus I'm doing four month-long classes and three of those are free. Here are the classes I'm involved in right now.

Life Book - Year long & $99 (well worth every penny)
Book of Days - Year long & free
52 Play Dates - Year long and free
Strathmore Paper Company is hosting three month-long, free classes
Letter Love 101 - Month-long lettering course that costs $35

Check them out. It's not too late to join in.

  8. Hi Nancy ....I saw your Goddesses on Lifebook ...just wanted to say what a vibrant , fun style you have . I'm too afraid to even post my first project on my blog LOL ....one of the main reasons I'm doing LIfebook is to free up my work as I'm quite a traditionalist oil painter ...soooooo hard to free onesself from that . But viewing your work gives me hope !

    Cheers
    Bre

    1. Thank you for your comments! Your work is lovely! I totally understand where you are coming from. I've always done traditional watercolors. I suggest starting a new blog that is just for play. :)

  13. I came across your blog and I wondered how you can teach courses to students when you're clearly copying other people's work?! http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HueIqYWAjA4/TyQsKAQY-oI/AAAAAAAAAJo/ZgE5xUzhVyc/s640/IMG_2683.JPG is on your blog as part of a book you're working on and https://journeyingtothegoddess.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/383939_10150435717071962_572800503_n.jpg?w=378&h=522 is the original work by Katrina Sesum.

This is straight up plagiarism and completely unacceptable for any artist, let alone someone who's holding residencies and teaching graduate classes.

    1. Hummm... not enough nerve to put your name, huh? I don't teach art; this is my personal art on my personal blog. I would have cited the artist if I had had the name but I didn't. Thank you for providing the site. Actually, copying art is an age-old acceptable way to learn art.
